What is the difference between a roof warranty and an insurance claim?

A workmanship warranty covers how the roof was installed. A manufacturer warranty covers defects in the roofing materials. Your homeowners insurance covers sudden damage from events such as hail or wind. Each one covers a different kind of problem.

Workmanship warranty

A workmanship warranty is the roofing contractor’s guarantee on the installation. If a problem is caused by how the roof was installed, this is the warranty that applies.

Every qualifying roof replacement and approved roof repair from Dalco Contractors and Roofing is backed by our lifetime workmanship warranty, for as long as you own your home. It covers workmanship only and does not cover damage from acts of God, extreme weather, negligence or improper maintenance.

Manufacturer warranty

A manufacturer warranty comes from the company that made the shingles or other roofing materials. It covers defects in the product, and the terms vary by manufacturer and product.

Homeowners insurance

Your homeowners policy covers sudden damage from events such as hail, wind or a fallen tree. It generally does not cover normal wear and aging.

If your roof was damaged in a storm, we can help you with your insurance claim.

Frequently Asked Questions

My roof is leaking. Which one applies?

It depends on the cause. A problem with the installation falls under the workmanship warranty, storm damage is an insurance claim, and a defect in the shingles falls under the manufacturer warranty. A roof inspection can help find the cause.

Is your workmanship warranty transferable?

No. Our lifetime workmanship warranty is non-transferable and lasts for as long as you own your home.

Does your warranty cover storm damage?

No. Damage from extreme weather is excluded from our workmanship warranty. Storm damage is usually a homeowners insurance claim.
